TST’s Energy Audit Team Leader, Eric Sempels, answers your asked questions :
What subsidies are available?
Subsidies fall into two categories: analysis subsidies and implementation subsidies. Analysis subsidies cover between 40% and 75% of the cost of an energy analysis, while implementation subsidies vary according to the measures implemented. Some subsidies, such as Energir’s New Construction program, cover both part of the analysis and the implementation. Energir, Hydro-Québec and Transition Energétique Québec (TEQ) are the entities that most often subsidize energy efficiency-projects.
What do I need to know about analysis subsidies?
The opening of a subsidy file for analysis must be done before starting the analysis. It’s important to identify needs from the
outset and to open the file with the right entities. Analyses can be carried out on a specific energy efficiency measure or on a series of measures, for an existing building or a new construction. For most programs, the analysis must be carried out by an engineer and/or an approved firm.
What do I need to know about location subsidies?
The terms and conditions vary greatly depending on the program. Apart from Hydro-Québec’s Efficient Solutions and Energir’s Efficient Appliances programs, files must be opened before an equipment purchase order is issued, and generally require analysis by an engineer. Given the number of programs available and their terms and conditions, we strongly recommend that you contact your energy efficiency partner to take full advantage of them.
